Where to eat in Tulum – Mi Amor

📍 Mi Amor, Nr Las Palmas Public Beach, Tulum

I’m going to start with a bold statement. THIS RESTAURANT HAS THE BEST MARGARITAS IN TULUM!

Ok, now that’s out of the way I’ll tell you a little more about Mi Amor.

Located near Mezzanine, Mi Amor is another aesthetically pleasing beach front restaurant located in Tulum. Beautifully perched on the rocks with the sound of breaking waves and a gentle breeze, reflection pools and swim up infinity pools set around the restaurant and candles on the tables, this is definitely a romantic dinner spot. Mi Amor say the restaurant is “Inspired by Mediterranean and Mexican cuisine. Chef Paul Bentley and his team are passionate about technique, flavor and sourcing the best quality products and ingredients available to them. Chef Bentley´s style is simple but done exceptionally well.”

We started our meal here with the Short Rib Croquettes and the Suckling Pig Tacos. The croquettes were deep fried crispy balls of buttery beefy goodness. The beef inside is pulled, juicy and full of flavour, and coated with the most delicious crunchy crispy batter. The garlic ailoi served with it cuts right through that beefy flavour to provide the most creamy finish to these croquettes.

The Suckling Pig Tacos were absolutely delicious! Served in roasted corn tortillas with pico de gallo, avocado purée and fresh crunchy radish. The pork here was really special, just enough salty crispy crunch to go with the peppery radish, the super sweet tomatoes in the pico de gallo and the creamy avocado puree. Just fantastic! We ordered a plate of tacos each just because neither of us wanted to miss out! How can you share three right??

Next came the mains. We chose the Roasted Chicken, crispy potatoes and charred broccoli.

The Roasted chicken was served with roasted pepper caponata and fried yuca shavings. The Chicken itself was so tender and succulent, not at all dry and perfectly cooked, served with caponata – very reminiscent of a rich tomatoey ratatouille, full of flavour and perfectly complimented the chicken with every bite. The crispy potatoes were beautiful – served with a punchy jalapeño mayonnaise and a dusting of parmesan cheese, soft and fluffy on the inside and crispy on the outside, leaving a little hum on the tongue from the spicy mayonaise. And the chared broccoli was fantastic too, I ended up eating this all to myself – perfectly cooked and charred on tips of the florets, the tahini provided a nice earthy, nutty, savoury flavour to the fresh bites of the broccoli.

Mi Amor is a very relaxed dining experience, with sofas with fluffy pillows lining one side and views of the bright blue ocean from every table, neon signs, candles and super friendly staff. Definitely come and make the most of the 2 for 1 Margaritas during Happy Hour, take in the beautiful sunset from the terrace, and eat some of the most gorgeous and very reasonably priced food in Tulum. Mi Amor, you’ve won our hearts!
